BMW Cooling Liquid

Coolant is an element present on all existing vehicles. It is therefore normal that there are specific coolants for each make of vehicle. For example, the coolant for BMW. Coolant is essential for the proper functioning of an engine and for its longevity.

The mission of coolant

For starters, BMW coolant is a coolant for BMW branded cars. As with other coolants, it has many properties. Protection against freezing and overheating are its primary functions. It provides optimum heat transfer. It also provides protection against corrosion and cavitation of engine components even at high temperatures. The liquid circulates through the cooling system to maintain a constant temperature in the engine. Antifreeze, treated water and anti-corrosion agents are the basis of the coolant composition. The special feature of the coolant is that it only boils above 100°C and only freezes at very low temperatures.

The different types of coolant

There are 3 main types of coolant:

– MINERAL: INORGANIC ADDITIVE TECHNOLOGY (IAT)

This is the first coolant technology. Today it is outdated with respect to the requirements of modern engines, but it is still used for older vehicles.

– ORGANIC: ORGANIC ADDITIVE TECHNOLOGY (OAT)

So-called “universal” liquids fall into this category. They are the most environmentally friendly and have the advantage of being miscible with other types of liquids.

– HYBRID: HYBRID ORGANIC ADDITIVE TECHNOLOGY (HOAT)

It is a mixture of IAT and OAT. This technology was developed to meet the specific specifications of certain car manufacturers.
